DBD Group MEI development company focuses on two geographical areas: Europe and the USA, specifically the Czech Republic and Florida. In 2021, the company underwent substantial transformations and realized that a website update was necessary. They needed a brand-new online presence to showcase their projects to both investors and future customers.

Website brief
The client wanted a one-page website with separate pages for individual projects in their portfolio. The website was to be in English and clearly indicate that the business operates on two continents.
Additionally, the client wanted to handle content changes in-house, namely adding new projects and updating photos and website texts.
Visual inspiration and microbranding
Our main inspiration for this project came from the clean, minimalist websites of architects, design-build studios, and development companies. The kind of websites where beautiful project visuals and professional photographs stand out against a simple white background.
The client didn’t have a brand guide, so we put together a design sheet with what I call ‘microbranding.’ I selected the color palette (shades of gray and a bright blue contrast color), selected fonts (we settled for a modern, sans-serif font) and created a text logo.

Who writes the copy?
The client provided English copy for the entire website. I assisted with the claim, headings and legal information, and I also wrote the About section. The headings were reviewed and refined by a US-based marketing expert.
Website development and feedback rounds
The first step in the design process was drafting the structure of the website, which we did on the kick-off meeting. I refined the structure and transformed it into wireframes, while the client provided website copy and visual influencers (links to websites they saw as inspiration). Then I started developing the homepage, asked for feedback, and implemented the requested changes during two rounds of feedback. For instance, we featured a different project on the homepage and added an Awards section.
I focused on making the website’s admin area as intuitive as possible so that the client could make all content changes themselves (for example, projects are assigned to sections by tags). I documented everything in a series of video tutorials.

An ongoing partnership
We ended up launching the website a few weeks earlier than planned. The client needed it for a meeting with a potential investor, and I was happy to meet the new deadline.
I also designed and coded the client’s e-mail signatures – and I take care of ongoing website maintenance.
